Bear Breaks Into Home in Chamba; CCTV Footage Sparks Safety Concerns Across Region

A wild bear broke into a home in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, after tearing through an iron grill, a moment captured on CCTV. The incident follows a surge in bear intrusions and attacks in the area, prompting authorities and the Forest Department to heighten vigilance and urge residents to take safety precautions.

A chilling incident from Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district has renewed fears among residents after CCTV footage captured a wild bear forcing its way into a residential property. The video, which has circulated widely on social media, shows the animal tearing through an iron grill before entering the house, underscoring the growing frequency and severity of human-wildlife encounters in the region.

According to local reports, Chamba has witnessed a noticeable increase in bear intrusions in recent months, including several cases involving attacks on residents. These recurring incidents have left neighbourhoods on edge, with many families expressing concern over their safety, particularly during early morning and late evening hours when sightings are most common.

Authorities have acknowledged the rising threat. The district administration and the Forest Department have intensified monitoring efforts and initiated awareness measures for residents living near forested stretches. Officials have urged people to remain vigilant, secure entry points to their homes, and immediately report any wildlife movement in populated areas. Forest teams are also conducting routine patrols and assessing the patterns of bear activity to prevent further incidents.

While no injuries were reported in the latest case, the alarming footage has prompted renewed discussion on the need for stronger wildlife management strategies in Chamba. The situation highlights the broader challenge of maintaining balance at the forest–human interface, where shrinking habitats and expanding settlements often bring wild animals dangerously close to communities.
